The 5th edition of RGB Light Experience will take place in Rome from 9 to 11 October 2020, the “Lightmotiv” will be “Naturare“.
If the past edition with “Lightscapes” we asked you to turn the space upside down, suggesting conceiving the urban space as a living being and modifying its morphology, creating a change in gender, appearance, character, moral and spiritual attitude, with “Naturare” we ask you to go on.
“Naturare” invites you to think about Humanity, and all that is akin to it, not as a center of Nature, but as part of it; it asks you to think and act with the awareness that we live a living place and are part of a closely interconnected whole.
Humanity acts in an invasive and irresponsible, selfish and careeristic, capitalist and anti-capitalist way, deceiving itself that it governs the natural world and ignoring the responsibilities it has towards it. The impact of Humanity on Nature is such as to seriously threaten the quality of its existence and to radically influence the fate of other species, destroying entire ecosystems. It is necessary to introduce a rapid and radical change; we have a responsibility to take care of Nature, this is the thought that must govern our actions!
What artistic action can we activate to upset the way Humanity stands towards Nature? How can we, through art, the highest expression of human creativity, “Naturare” the impact of the action of the whole of humanity and put it in harmony with nature?
In the design of the artistic proposals the participants will have to take the concept of “Naturare” as the main guide; the final aim of the proposal must be to promote progress towards what Michelangelo Pistoletto has called “Third Paradise”.
Submit your artistic proposal no later than 12:00 (+1 GMT) on May 24th 2020
–> Due to the numerous requests for extensions, the deadline for the delivery of the artistic proposals has been postponed to June 22, 2020!!! <–
The fifth edition of the Festival will take place in Rome, in the urban context that best represents the future of our society; a cosmopolitan place made of a mixture of different realities, coexistence between people and where colors and customs are twisted, influencing each other and unconsciously creating a new world. This is the triangle of land that has its vertices in the pedestrian area of Pigneto, the Alessandrino Aqueduct of Parco Sangalli and Piazza Malatesta; a route of about 4 kilometers that runs along the historic streets, architecture, and landscapes of the neighborhood.
Your project proposal can, therefore, be designed for outdoor locations or semi-enclosed spaces positioned along the path of the Festival. Streets and alleys, squares and gardens, galleries, buildings’ facades, courtyards.
Let yourself be inspired and stimulated by the places for the creation of your artwork!
*The map highlights the locations considered most interesting by the Artistic Direction, in any case the artistic proposals can be designed to be set up in any other location along the pre-established route.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION
For the next edition of the Festival, as the past ones, there are no special requirements for participation, excluding the desire to get involved, apply and experiment.
The call is destined to artists, individuals or in groups, of all ages and nationalities.
It is possible to participate in the selection by presenting one or more projects (an application must be completed for each proposal).
The design proposals must have the light as the main form of expression: light art, light installations, light objects, light environments, light design, architectural lighting, urban light, video installations, video mapping, live performances, light shows, projections and 3D installations.
It is preferable to propose an unpublished artwork, but already completed projects may be presented, only if they have never been exhibited in Rome.
The work proposed for the “Urbe Light” section must be site-specific, made specifically for a place located along the route of the Festival or in the immediate proximity.
The proposals concerning the “Light Performance” section should indicate a possible location.
If there will be any need, the Artistic Direction reserves the right to relocate the artworks in order to maintain a functional structural organicity to the Festival, clearly respecting the preference indicated by the artist.
The festival will provide the costs of production of the artwork (up to a maximum gross amount of € 3.500,00) and the cost of travel, food and accommodation for the artist.
The determined elements for the selection will be:
- The relevance of the artistic proposal to the theme “Naturare”
- The quality of the artwork, in technical and artistic terms
- The socio-cultural value of the artwork, in relation to the territory that will host it
- Economic feasibility
- For the “Urbe Light” section, the site-specific character of the proposed artwork
The selection will be at the discretion of the Artistic Direction. The results of the Call for Artists will be announced on the official website of the festival (www.rgblightfest.com) on July 15, 2020.
